This page outlines what subject Professors should do when running their classes. They are mainly for the reference of staff members, but are available for all to see. Information about classes for students can be viewed here.

Forum account
If you already have a student account, you are required to create a separate account for your staff member. You don't have to tell other members who your student character is.

Class frequency and duration
Classes are scheduled by Admin on the Calendar. You should do your best to start your class on the set date. If you have any troubles, please contact Admin. If your class isn't started on time (within 2 days of the scheduled start date) and you haven't previously contacted Admin a replacement Professor will be recruited for the remainder of the year.
You should run your class for at least a week, and try and wrap it up after 2 or 3.

Starting classes
Class threads have already been started by Admin in order to link them to the calendar.
When starting a new class, follow these steps:
- lock the thread of the previous class
- unlock the thread of the new class
- post a reply to the new class thread beginning the lesson
You may also wish to sticky the current class so it remains at the top of the board. Don't forget to unsticky it when you start the next lesson.

Class threads
To make classes easier to manage the class threads have been broken into two streams. The first thread, 5.1a, is for first years only. The second thread, 5.1b, is for second years and above. Both should be started at the same time, however if this is too difficult to manage the staff member should contact Admin to make alternative arrangements.

Ending classes
At the end of your class, please:
- lock the thread
- PM Admin notifying of end of class

Activity requirements
The following schedule must be followed in order to retain your staff position:
- 5 days before the class a reminder PM is sent by Admin
- the class must be started within 2 days of the scheduled date (unless prior arrangements have been made with Admin) otherwise you will lose your Professor position

Admin feedback
About 5 days before you class begins you will receive a PM from Admin:
- asking how your previous class went
- enquiring about plans for the upcoming lesson
You are expected to reply before the class begins. If you don't, you will lose your staff position.

Attendance
Attendance is recorded by Admin. You do not need to record attendance.

Character abilities
Please check the Skills and Abilities list to see which students are skilled in your subject and which students struggle in your subject.
If there is a student doing extremely well when they aren't skilled in the subject, send them a PM to explain the matter.

House points

Other role-playing
You are allowed to role-play your Professor out of class as well (for example in the staff room, patrolling the corridors etc).
Staff are also allowed to have a student account as well.
Classes are an important part of role-playing at Hogwarts, and the role of Professor is taken very seriously. If at any time you feel like you are struggling to keep up, please contact Admin so alternative arrangements can be made.
