Teams
Team lists
A list of team members can be found at this link.
Joining a team
Teams are selected by their captain. The following conditions must be met before applying:
You should PM your application to the team captain. See the 'teams list' (above) for available positions.
Substitutes
If your house already has a complete team, you can still apply for your team and have your name recorded as a substitute.
Each team can have up to 2 substitutes. The conditions for applying are the same as above (see 'Joining a Team')
Captains
Captains are chosen by Admin. Team captains should:
If these requirements aren't met a new captain will be chosen in time for the next match. Captains are reviewed two weeks prior to each Quidditch match.
Captains can add and remove members from their team here.
Scheduling
Upcoming matches are scheduled on the forum Calendar.
Qualifying to play
Before the match
The two team captains will be PMed two weeks before the match by Admin and need to confirm that their team is ready for the match. If a confirmation PM isn't received one week before the match, a new captain will be found.
During the match
If you don't post within the first 48 hours of the match a subsititute will take your position.
Role-playing matches
Quidditch rules
A nice overview of the rules of Quidditch can be found at Harry Potter fanzone.
Starting matches
All match threads have already been started and linked to the calendar. They are locked until the match begins.
The match will be started and unlocked by Admin. After the first post, 24 hours is allowed for players to post if they wish.
The head referee will post the release of the balls 24 hours after the thread was unlocked.
First possessions
The first Chaser to post after the balls are released may take first possession of the Quaffle. The first beaters to reply may 'take possession' of the Bludgers.
Inactivity
If your character is in possession of the Quaffle and you haven't posted for 24 hours another play may steal the Quaffle from your character.
If a Keeper hasn't responded to a goal within 24 hours the goal is assumed to go in, and the Referee will post the ball returning to play.
If you don't respond to a Bludger attack on your character within 24 hours it is assumed to have hit your character, and your attacker may post it successfully hitting your character.
Posts
Thread structure
Each Quidditch match will be role-played within two threads.
Post length
Posts should be kept to under 2 paragraphs (unless there is a special need for the post to be longer). Quidditch matches need to move quickly, and long posts make it difficult for members to follow the action.
However, to keep the game interesting posts should be at least one full paragraph (at least 3-4 sentences). If your post doesn't meet this requirement, your character's action will fail (eg a Keeper won't block a goal, a Beater won't hit their target, a Chaser will lose the Quaffle).
Colour coding
Certain parts of Quidditch posts should be colour coded. These include player names, balls and referee posts.
The following codes should be used during Quidditch matches:
Using these colours makes it easier to see when your player needs to respond and helps readers quickly know which team is doing what, etc.
Post frequency
To give everyone a fair go, no more than 4 posts should be posted by one member in 24 hours.
Errors in posts
Ensure you have read all new posts before responding. If you post about something that hasn't happened you will lose 5 house points.
If someone posts incorrectly about an action in the game, make an OOC post and the game will stop until a Referee responds.
Powerplay
Do not role-play your character as being too skilled in Quidditch. Unatural ability will result in a OOC comment from a referee. If you continue to role-play your character with 'super-powers' a message will be sent to Admin to follow up on the matter.
Spectators
A separate thread will be started on the commencement of the match for spectators to post. The commentator will also post in the spectator thread so spectators can follow the action. Please do not post as a spectator in the Quidditch match thread, or your post will be deleted by a referee.
Commentator
The commentator will post in the spectator thread so spectators know what part of the match they are up to and what is happening on the pitch. OOC posts will also be posted throughout the Quidditch match by the commentator and referees showing who is in possession of each ball, and keeping a running tally of the score.
Scoring
The Quaffle must be passed twice before shooting for a goal.
Example 1:
Example 2:
If attacked by a Bludger one more pass is required.
Example 3:
Fouls
The following information on different foul types was taken from the HP Lexicon. Penalties for offending players are listed in brackets after the foul description.
The if a foul occurs and a member of the opposition posts before the Referee, the foul will go unnoticed by the referee. Otherwise, a time-out will be called by the Referee. Members on the opposing team should send a PM to one of the Quidditch referees if they see a foul occur.
Catching the Snitch
Appearance of the Snitch
The appearance of the Snitch will be posted by Admin after a predetermined number of posts. This secret post number will be decided before the match commences.
Spotting the Snitch
To catch the Snitch, a Seeker needs to make a total of three posts about catching the Snitch (including the 'spotting' post). Someone else must reply inbetween each of the Seeker's posts.
