Given Hogwarts is a school of magic, classes form a rather large part of our role-playing. In order for your character to advance at the end of the year, you must meet a minimum class attendance requirement (outlined below in 'Graduation').
Staff information can be found here.
Current classes
The following subjects are currently running:
Professor Nanterre is also a substitute Professor to fill in for other subjects.
You can view class attendance here.
Scheduling
From the calendar you are able to view a schedule of classes. Classes will commence close to that date, however due to different timezones it might be a day early or late.
Duration
In general, class will run for approximately two weeks, however depending on the number of students involved it may be shorter or longer.
Please ensure a class is still running before you join in.
Joining classes
To join a class simply make a post in the relevant class thread. Threads ending in 'a' (eg 5.1a) are for first year students, and threads ending in 'b' (eg 5.1b) are open to all other years.
Before posting, ensure you have read the thread first and know what is happening.
If you come in to a class late you don't need to role-play your late entrance unless you particularly want to. It is quite alright to join in as though you were there all along.
Please see 'graduation' below for information about class attendance.
Graduation and class attendance
In order for your character to pass the year you are required to attend at least 2 classes for each month you are registered during that school year. The table below summarises the attendance requirement.
| Date registered | Attendance requirement |
| Before July 2008 | 12 |
| July 2008 | 12 |
| August 2008 | 10 |
| September 2008 | 8 |
| October 2008 | 6 |
| November 2008 | 4 |
| December 2008 | 2 |
Attending more classes than the above requirement is encouraged and makes role-playing at Hogwarts far more enjoyable.
Attendance is recorded each class so an accurate assessment can be made. Attendance is recorded 7 days after the class began. If you join after this time your attendance will not be recorded. Your overall attendance can be viewed on this page (also linked from the top of the forums).
To get a full attendance point you must make at least three posts in the class. If you only post once, you will only get 1/3 of an attendance point. Similarly two posts will get you 2/3 of a point. This is to ensure that you are actually getting involved in the class and not just posting once to get the attendance point.
Homework
Professors might sometimes set homework tasks. You are not required to actually submit a homework response. Homework gives your character a chance to interact with others outside of class while working on assignments. It also adds to the authenticity of our role-playing when students hand in homework (or don't!) during class.
Staff
Staff members are chosen by Admin. If you have any questions regarding a subject you should PM the relevant Professor. A list of Professors can be found in the 'Current classes' section above.
Please note, staff members are not necessarily global moderators. General role-playing queries should be directed to a global moderator. A list of global moderators can be found in the Moderators section of the board rules.
